Yes. Licensed paralegals in Ontario are authorized to represent clients in certain legal matters, including Provincial Offences Court, Small Claims Court, and some tribunal matters.
Under the Highway Traffic Act, stunt driving includes excessive speeding (usually 40 km/h or more over the limit where the limit is under 80 km/h, or 50 km/h over where the limit is 80 km/h or higher), racing, performing dangerous maneuvers, or driving in a way that intentionally shows off or risks public safety.
In most cases, the officer may issue an immediate roadside license suspension and the vehicle may be impounded for 14 days. The driver will also receive a court summons or offence notice for the charge.
Possible penalties under Section 172 of the Highway Traffic Act, upon conviction in court – – Fine: minimum of $2,000 up to $10,000;
– Demerit points: 6 points;
– License suspension: 1-3 years (for a first conviction), 3-10 years (for a second conviction, Lifetime suspension (reducible after 10 years);
– Possible jail sentence: up to 6 months
– Mandatory driver improvement course before license reinstatement.
